Bryce Pope - Men's Basketball (2024)

BREAKDOWN: Graduate transfer Bryce Pope is a 6-3, 185-pound guard who transferred to USC from UC San Diego. He is an outstanding shooter who scored 1,627 points in 105 games (starting the last 104) at UC San Diego.

2023-24: Pope started all 33 games for UC San Diego and averaged a team-leading 18.3 points, which ranked fifth in the Big West. He was named All-Big West first team. He was also named NABC All-District, the first Triton to earn the honor, and was a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, given to the top layer in mid-major college basketball. He also made a team-high 74 three-point baskets and made 81.7 percent of his free throws (103-for-126). He scored in double figures in 31 of 33 games and had 25 games of 15 or more points. He scored a career-high 32 points vs. UC Irvine on Feb. 24, making 11 of 19 field goal attempts and 8 of 9 free throws. He had 15 games with 3 or more three-point baskets made, with a career-best tying 5 makes three times: Nov. 6 vs. Denver, Jan. 11 vs. LBSU and Feb. 2 vs. CSUN. He earned three Big West Player of the Week honors. He was named to the Winter Big West All-Academic Team. He scored 32 points and hit a game-tying three-pointer as time expired in a first-place battle with UC Irvine on Feb. 24, a game UC San Diego won in overtime.

2022-23: He played and started 29 games for UC San Diego, averaging 18.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. He finished second in the Big West in scoring, led the conference in minutes per game (38.0) and was named All-Big West second team. He scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games, with 12 games of 20 or more points scored. He scored a season-high 31 points on 11 of 16 shooting in a win at George Washington on Nov. 22. Became the 14^th Triton all-time to surpass 1,000 career points scored when he scored 24 points at UC Irvine on Feb. 23. He was twice named Big West Player of the Week.

2021-22: Pope played in 28 games (27 starts) and averaged 12.3 points per game, second on the team. He scored in double figures 17 times, with a season-best 24 points scored vs. Eastern Michigan on Dec. 2 and at CSUN on Feb. 3. He made 82.8 percent of his free throw attempts (82-for-99). He had three games with 4 three-pointers made. He scored 19 points and sank the game-winning field goal with 1.4 seconds left in a 72-70 win at CSU Bakersfield on March 3. He was named to the mid-season Zootown Classic All-Tournament team at Montana.

2020-21: He stated all 15 games he played during his redshirt freshman season at UC San Diego, averaging 9.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He made 39.7 percent of his three-point attempts (25-for-63). He scored a season-best 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting in the program’s first Division I game vs. UC Irvine on Jan. 9.

2019-20: Pope redshirted his first season at UC San Diego.

HIGH SCHOOL: Pope was a 2019 graduate of Torrey Pines High in San Diego. He averaged 19.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while making 53 percent of his field goal attempts, 41 percent from three-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line. He led his team to a 25-7 record, the Avocado West League title and the school’s first CIF Open Division Championships to earn San Diego Section Player of the Year. He was also named The Coast News’ North County Player of the Year.
