The father of an Aiken teen charged with the murder of a 16-year-old basketball player has been accused of selling drugs and possessing a stolen rifle.

Aiken County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Gary Ulysses Abraham, 56, on July 27.

Abraham possessed a stolen Ruger AR-556 rifle, more than 400 grams of cocaine and between 28 grams and 10 pounds of marijuana, according to search warrants.

Abraham is the father of Gary Jaquise Abraham, 18, of Aiken, according to Capt. Eric Abdullah. The younger Abraham was accused of murder and attempted murder in Myrtle Beach on July 20,

Gary Jaquise Abraham allegedly killed Jakolbi Taylor, a star point guard at his high school in Virginia, who traveled to Myrtle Beach for a basketball tournament.

More than 1,000 people attended Taylor’s funeral at Patrick Henry High School.

Gary Ulysses Abraham has been charged with trafficking 400 grams or more of cocaine, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Possession of 400 grams or more of cocaine is punishable by between 25 and 30 years in prison without probation and a $200,000 fine.

Possession of a stolen firearm is punishable by up to five years in prison, or a $2,000 fine or both.

Possession with intent to distribute marijuana is punishable by up to five years in prison, or a $5,000 fine or both for a first offense.

Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime is punishable by five years in prison in addition to the punishment of the principal crime.

An Aiken County magistrate set Gary Ulysses Abraham’s bond at $75,000.

No further court dates have been set.
