The Netherlands was the first country to investigate adoption practices of 5 sending countries. In 2021 the report came out and the concluded STOP and assistance to victims is necessary. The RSJ had already adviced stop in 2016. The Dutch government instead of stopping intercountry adoptions continues, still believing that it can be done 'correctly. The Dutch government puts now significant taxpayers money into the Hague Adoption System. Adoptees are also not concretely assisted. The INEA, is embedded in the FIOM and FIOM is International Social Service. Essentially the funds we and other orgs fought for 40 Million go to INEA. The INEA does NOT carry out out searches. All founds gone to ISS, but they do not even have to bring results. We and other orgs, have to carry out searches from our own funds. Largely the expectation is that adoptees who work in searches do that as volunteers. Tourist guided in the sending countries maybe paid though. I think tourist guides are not the right people for such work. The FIOM also does the preperation course. INEA/ISS/ FIOM are Keten partners ( Chainpartners) The new agency will get 12 full time people working on intercountry adoptions. It is an absolute scandal! https://lnkd.in/dBSbmgTX

Sadly the city (Antwerp) has decided to close and defund another youth house. Over 20 youth workers haven been laid of this year alone(!) Sending kids back on the streets will only be destructive to society. Investing in infrastructural projects that revenue millions is more important than investing in the development of our youth. They're undereducated, instable and guideless already. Cities care more about short-term gains and have no solidified long-term view. This is the pathway of imbalance and chaos which leads to nothing productive. The youth are our future! It's our responsibility to help them make the world a better place. Not only for their generation but also for those still to come. What do you expect of the future if you're not willing to invest in our youth - who need it more than ever - today?! UNICEF Nederland's Jongeren Prinsjesdag 2023 (Youth Prince's Day); an event where the dutch youth took the opportunity to inform our politicians on topics they want to see tackled in the parliament; war, climate and poverty. It was incredible to see a room full of passionate youth; aiming to change the vision of our nation. I hope their voices get heard and their advice is taken to heart. That is the way to bring about change; listening to the youth, rather than writing their ideas off and staying put in our old lanes.Hannah Arendt explored this concept in her work "The crisis in education":"Education is the point at which we decide whether we love the world enough to assume responsibility for it, and by the same token save it from that ruin which except for renewal, except for the coming of the new and the young, would be inevitable."The same applies to our society; we have to listen to the voices of the new and the young to save us from the ruin of a stagnant system.Lets all start to listen#Unicef #Youth #Listen #PrinsjesDag #JongerenPrinsjesdag #NextGen #nextgeneration

Many talks in the last 4 years with stakeholders in the system have led to nothing. The INEA | Expertisecentrum Interlandelijke Adoptie which is embedded in Fiom which is International Social Service (ISS), now run largely by adult adoptees has written an advocacy letter. Very much appreciated. But 49 - 99 USD for a DNA kit is not what the issue is. Almost everyone can afford that. It is nice to have extra "holiday" - but that is not the main issue. The main issues are that access to files in India is difficult and it needs a professional approach. Also tracing mothers - often so called unmarried mothers needs a qualifed, experienced social worker. Not tourist guides or volunteers. This costs money. Possibly exposing mothers via DNA based searches is not advisable. That won't work out well for the mothers.Additionally the US based commercial consumer kits are not even available here in India, most adoptees only get very distant matches. Travelling to India is for some adoptees who are young, or struggle otherwise is financially impossible. It would have been good if INEA would have consulted orgs like ours before sending such letter out. I did give a lot of input in general, but obviously it was disregarded here. https://lnkd.in/d4wgKfbw
