Our new Activity Pack includes 6 1lb bags of bulk food-grade, biodegradable color powder, 6 small squeeze bottles, and 6 color powder chalk colors. This one activity pack is your foundation for dozens of fun summer games that will get kids active, engaged, and outside! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Art Mural Magic

This is a collaborative and creative activity that kids of all ages can enjoy. This activity not only encourages artistic expression but also provides a fun way to spend time outdoors, creating lasting memories and colorful art!

Materials Needed:

Preparation:

  1. Collaboratively decide on a theme for the murals. Themes can vary from nature scenes, underwater worlds, space adventures, or favorite movie characters. Having a theme can guide the drawings, making the activity more cohesive.
  2. Gather Materials, and fill the squeeze bottles with different colors of color powder.
  3. Clear the chosen area of any debris and make sure it is clean and dry. Lay out the chalk, color powder, and squeeze bottles within easy reach of the players.

How to Play:

Divide the large area into sections if there are multiple players. Have the kids sketch out their mural designs using sidewalk chalk. Encourage creativity and let them draw anything from landscapes and animals to abstract art and geometric patterns. Younger kids can use stencils or templates to help with their designs.

Once the base designs are complete, give the kids squeeze bottles filled with color powder. Show them how to use the squeeze bottles to add details and enhance their chalk drawings. They can fill in shapes, add shading, or create patterns within their drawings.

After the details are added, give each child a spray bottle filled with water. Instruct them to gently spray their murals with water. The water helps the color powder adhere to the chalk and the surface, making the designs more vibrant and longer-lasting.

Once all the murals are complete and sprayed, have a mini art show. Let the kids walk around and admire each other’s work. Take photos of the finished murals to capture the creativity and effort.

Variations:

  • Collaborative Mural: Work together on a single, large mural. Assign different sections to different kids, and let them see how their individual contributions come together to form a cohesive piece.
  • Story Mural: Have kids draw scenes from a story they create. Each section of the driveway or sidewalk can represent a different part of the story, encouraging collaborative storytelling and drawing.
  • Nature Prints: Collect leaves, flowers, and other natural items. Use them to create prints in the chalk murals by spraying color powder over them and then removing the items to reveal detailed patterns.

Chalk Color Maze

The chalk maze is an engaging, interactive, and physically active game that combines problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. This activity offers a fun and memorable way for kids and teens to enjoy their summer days outdoors.

Materials Needed:

  • Color Supply Co. Activity Pack
  • Items needed for maze checkpoint challenges
  • A large outdoor space like a driveway, playground, or park

Preparation:

  1. Begin by sketching a maze design on paper. The complexity can vary based on the age group. For younger kids, keep it simple with wider paths and fewer dead ends. For older kids and teens, make it more challenging with narrow paths and multiple twists and turns.
  2. Use the sidewalk chalk to transfer the maze design onto the pavement. Make sure the lines are bold and clear. Consider using different colors for different sections to add interest.
  3. Mark various checkpoints throughout the maze. These can be small circles or shapes drawn with chalk. You can number them to track progress.
  4. At each checkpoint, set up a small station with a challenge, and color powder squeeze bottles.

How to Play:

Have players start at the entrance of the maze. They can go one by one or in small groups, depending on the size of the maze and the number of players. As players navigate the maze, they must find and stop at each checkpoint.

At each checkpoint, they use the color powder or squeeze bottles to mark their progress. For example, they can squeeze the bottle up in the air to cover themselves with color.

Variations:

  • Timed Challenge: Turn it into a timed challenge where players race against the clock to complete the maze as quickly as possible.
  • Team Maze: Divide players into teams. Each team member must navigate a section of the maze before passing the task to the next member, relay-race style.
  • Theme Maze: Create themed mazes based on holidays, movies, or books. For example, a “Pirate Treasure Hunt” maze where players follow clues to find hidden “treasure” (a small prize) at the end.
  • Learning Maze: Incorporate educational elements by placing math problems, riddles, or trivia questions at each checkpoint that players must solve before moving on.

Colorful Scavenger Hunt

This is an exciting, interactive, and engaging activity that combines problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. This colorful twist on a classic scavenger hunt adds a fun and memorable element to any summer day.

Materials Needed:

  • Color Supply Co. Activity Pack
  • A large outdoor space like a park, playground, or backyard
  • Small prizes or hidden items for the scavenger hunt
  • A list of clues and items to be found

Preparation:

  1. Decide on the items to be hidden and the clues that will lead to them. Write a list of items and clues in advance. For younger kids, keep the clues simple and straightforward. For older kids and teens, make the clues more challenging with riddles or puzzles.
  2. Use the color powder chalk to write clues on the pavement or other surfaces around the play area. Make sure the clues are easy to read and lead players from one location to the next.
  3. Hide the items at various spots around the area. Mark these hiding spots with color powder to make them more visible and to add a fun, colorful element to the hunt.
  4. Set up small stations with color powder and squeeze bottles near each hidden item. Players can use the squeeze bottles to mark their progress or celebrate finding an item.

How to Play:

Gather all players and explain the rules of the scavenger hunt. Hand out the first clue, which will lead them to the first hidden item. Players follow the clues written in color chalk to find each hidden item.

As they find items, they can use the color powder and squeeze bottles to mark their progress or celebrate. Each time a player finds an item, they collect it and move on to the next clue. Continue until all items are found and the final destination is reached.

Once all items are found, gather players for a final celebration using the color powder to throw in the air, marking the successful completion of the scavenger hunt.

Variations:

  • Team Scavenger Hunt: Divide players into teams. Each team works together to find the items and solve the clues. The first team to find all items and reach the final destination wins.
  • Themed Scavenger Hunt: Create a themed scavenger hunt based on holidays, movies, or books. For example, a “Pirate Adventure” hunt where clues are related to pirate lore and hidden “treasures” (small prizes) are found along the way.
  • Timed Hunt: Add a time challenge to the scavenger hunt. Set a timer and challenge players to find all items and solve all clues within a certain timeframe.
  • Educational Hunt: Incorporate educational elements by adding questions or facts to the clues. Players must answer questions or solve problems to get the next clue. This variation combines learning with fun.

Colorful Obstacle Course

You can create an engaging, physically active, and mentally stimulating activity that combines fun challenges with vibrant colors. This activity offers a memorable and exciting way for kids and teens to enjoy their summer days outdoors, promoting physical fitness and creativity.

Materials Needed:

  • Color Supply Co. Activity Pack
  • Cones, ropes, and other materials to create obstacles (think: hula hoops, pool noodles, balance beams, get creative with what you have on hand!)
  • A large outdoor space like a backyard or park

Preparation:

  1. Plan an obstacle course layout on paper. Include a variety of challenges such as jumping over ropes, crawling under nets, balancing on beams, and running through cones. The complexity can vary based on the age group.
  2. Use cones, ropes, hula hoops, and other materials to set up the physical obstacles. Make sure each obstacle is safe and sturdy. Arrange them in a sequence that participants must follow.
  3. At various points along the course, set up color stations with color powder and squeeze bottles. These can be at the beginning, middle, and end of the course, as well as at key checkpoints.
  4. Use the color powder chalk to draw arrows or lines on the ground, indicating the direction of the course. You can also use chalk to add fun designs or motivational words along the way.

How to Play:

Gather all participants and explain the rules of the obstacle course. Show them the layout and demonstrate how to use the color powder and squeeze bottles.

Participants start at the beginning of the course and navigate through each obstacle. At each color station, they use the squeeze bottles to mark their progress or sprinkle color powder on themselves or the ground.

Participants continue through the course, tackling each obstacle and using the color stations until they reach the end. Celebrate their success with a final burst of color powder at the finish line.

Variations:

  • Timed Challenge: Turn it into a timed challenge where participants race against the clock to complete the course as quickly as possible. Keep track of the best times and award small prizes to the fastest participants.
  • Team Relay: Divide participants into teams. Each team member must complete the course before passing the task to the next member, relay-race style. The first team to have all members complete the course wins.
  • Themed Course: Create themed obstacle courses based on holidays, movies, or books. For example, a “Superhero Training” course where participants complete superhero-themed obstacles and earn color powder “powers” along the way.
  • Educational Course: Incorporate educational elements by adding questions or challenges at each obstacle. Participants must answer a question or solve a problem before moving on to the next obstacle. This variation combines physical activity with learning.
