What happens if you forget your clothes in the laundromat overnight? ›

"What if I leave my clothes by mistake?" Clothes left in a dryer will be put on the folding tables. Clothes left in washers will be left overnight. If they aren't retrieved by 9am they will be dried (so they don't start to get that funky wet laundry smell!) and held for dryer cost plus a $5 handling fee per dryer load.

Choose Off Hours

Laundromats are often busiest in the morning. Avoid the crowds and fierce fights over machines by heading to the laundromat in the afternoon or evening.

The answer is it depends. Each laundromat has its own policies regarding leaving laundry unattended. Some may allow it, while others may require you to stay with your clothes throughout washing and drying.

Don't wander off. I know it is hard to just sit there while your laundry is washing, but remember leave your churning clothes unattended at your own risk. If you don't get back in time, someone may just take the liberty of piling your clothes on top of one of the tables in order to use the machine.

In short, the answer is Yes! Simply toss the pod into the drum area before you lock/close the door and you'll be good to go! Be sure to NOT put it in the regular liquid detergent area of the machine as that may cause damage/blockage and result in clothes not getting cleaned correctly.

Respect the Machines

Read the instructions on or near the door of the machine. We all love a fragrant laundry basket, but don't use so much detergent or softener that it's still there for the next person. Left-over detergents or fabric treatments can ruin the next person's wash, especially bleaches or whiteners.

Save Water and Energy

Laundromats use machine washers that consume less water and energy than washing clothes at home. These machines also clean your clothes more thoroughly in comparison to washers made for homes, so you do not have to worry about the clothes not being clean enough.

Clothing that's only slightly whiffy can simply be air-dried. If you hang the item up outdoors, the breeze and fresh air will help remove the mildewy odour and save you the trouble of having to run another load. 2.
